Brandy was a hardly a month old, when he was found in a terrible condition by Shashank, who immediately called for help. Shashank, along with Dr. Prasad, went to rescue Brandy at night in the rain, but he could not be caught as he in a space in between two walls. Next morning, Shashank tried again and finally got him here, to our sanctuary.
We finally started with Brandy's treatment, and appealed for his foster care. Shubham came forward to take care of Brandy, but after two days, they found out that he was suffering from diarrhea, which tested out to be Parvo, a fatal disease. We got his treatment prescribed by our Dr. Ambika from Furry Tales.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, we had limited resources and our doctor was also quarantined. Ananya, was also quarantined and we were losing hope with his weak condition, since he was to be administered fluids morning and evening. Medicines were also difficult to get and there were no nearby shops for veterinary medicines.
We spoke to our volunteers and somehow arrange for his fluids to be done, sometimes by a volunteer, sometimes by another doctor.
And Nandini volunteered to be at the sanctuary in Ananya's absence, to oversee Brandy's treatment for almost 13 days- day and night.
Brandy was very weak, but with time, he began to show signs of improvement. However, even after being cured, he remained weak, and we were unsure if he would survive and be safe. This is when our
Mali Baba, who took care of all the rescue animals on our farm, stepped up to take care of Brandy and all other rescues at the time. He fed him 3-4 times a day and provided him with the necessary care and attention. Brandy slowly began to grow stronger and healthier.
For better personalized care and attention, we kept appealing for his foster, and he first went to Anuradha, who loved him so much but could not adopt him as her father would not allow.
After a few days, he was again fostered by Samarth for a week as they had always wanted to have a dog companion, but mostly remained out for work. COVID and work from home allowed them this opportunity to foster Brandy.
While all the pups who were rescued before and after Brandy, got adopted, Brandy happened to live here with us, and still waits for his forever home.
However, his story is one of dedication and hope. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, Brandy was given the necessary care and attention to recover and become healthy.
This story shows the importance of compassion towards animals and the impact that volunteers and caregivers can have in their lives. Brandy's rescue story is a testament to the power of hope and perseverance in the face of challenges. We should all strive to make a positive impact in the lives of animals, just like Brandy's rescuers.
