Rainy Days

It has started raining and the weather forecast shows rainy days ahead. As good as it sounds, it turns out to be a tough time for the doggos here.

Each of them wants to be pampered with love and have someone to swirl through their fur to let them know, they are loved. And then they need to go for a walk, explore their surrounding to return back in their enclosures on time for their dinner or when Mali Baba calls. Unless they are adopted, this is the life I can afford as a human within human limitations, coz even if I wanted to, all of them have their differences and will not stay together without nasty deadly fights.

So today, as soon as rain started, Mali baba and Naresh got down to putting up tarpaulins and shifting the enclosures due to pooling of water. And then towel dried Kappa Bhuri Jimmy Pali while Alladin sat comfortably in the old tent. Brandy and Sandy were ok and not drenched in rain.

As soon as rain stopped, I reached and towel dried Will first thing, he was drenched and even wanted to walk around. And just as he was about to reach Alladin, Naresh ran to pick up Alladin, else it could have been really bad.

Next Will was taken in his enclosure, Bhuri and Kappa were let out, but they ain’t friends yet. They will be eventually, now that Kappa has started barking and been active, we need to keep a watch on him too. He scared off Jimmy yesterday, and Jimmy came growling and running to me, (heard about the elephants and teeth?). Jimmy is too fragile and weak to put up to any other dog, so he growls the moment someone comes near.

Bhuri on the other hand, especially goes and stands in-front of Will and Sandy’s enclosure to tease them, and runs away. So, next Jimmy came out coz he kept howling in his enclosure, while he does sleep comfortable everyday. It was just the rainy messy day.

And then Naresh & Mali baba went to pick up his food and milk for them from his house. The usual scene, but today they were all wet in rain. Meanwhile Paali was feeling uncomfortable in her enclosure so I took her out, and made her sit on the bed. But she still felt uncomfortable and wanted to get off the bed too.

So, Sunny (Naresh’s friend) kept a watch on her while I went to check on Alladin and he was hungry. I gave him half a chapati, which he ate and slept. Paali too had a chapati. And turn by turn me & Sunny, looked for more tarpaulins to cover Will and Kappa’s other side of enclosure, while standing near Paali, so she would not jump off the bed. (Yes, she wanted to.)

Mali baba and Naresh returned with food, and finally we fed everyone, running inside outside carrying 2-3 bowls each time. Now Saint, needs a good amount of love, every time I see her or she would come running after me on her twos. So in the midst of it, I spent a little time with her. And we were almost done feeding everyone.

After much hassle and clearing the space to make space for shifting an enclosure if need be, we even put some old fibre sheet over the new enclosure coz it does not have a roof yet. It is covered by a tarpaulin but the tarpaulin was heavy with water and started leaking.

Now, that everything was done, and we clean dried Paali’s enclosure, she still wanted to go out to her usually space to pee and poop, all across the land. And since she was not going to be ok without it, we took her out in the drizzle, and tried to put the dried grass from that area near her. But she did not, and she went all the way to her space, dragged herself in mucky water to pee. After letting her do so for a while, and her bandages soaked we took her back, cleaned her.

Her wounds have almost healed and the broken leg wound too is about to disappear. It is about time to leave it open and let it dry with regular dressing. So we did that, and made her sit in her enclosure, she lied down comfortably. And got Alladin too, to his enclosure.

It was about time for everyone’s night medicine dose, so Mali baba made biscuit laddus while I sorted the meds and Naresh gave them their multivitamins.

All done, it was just a rainy day. Time spent, but at the end of the day, they will still feel unloved coz I did not spend time with each one of them. Mali baba and Naresh love them too, and really care for them, but it is a conversation that I have with them, that makes me feel that they are happy. To rainy days ahead, "you are such spoilers".
